Selected by the 2020 International Photo Awards, Team Cayo Hueso recounts my return to the small gimnasio in the Cayo Hueso neighborhood of Havana I first visited in 2018. As I documented the young boxers training for a local tournament, I came to see the gimnasio as a microcosm of life in Cayo Hueso: dilapidated facilities held together by resourcefulness and family bonds that are uniquely Cuban.
All profits from sales of Team Cayo Hueso have been donated to the gimnasio.
